Blog numero dos (:
After reading chapter eight, Holden completely confuses me. I don't understand why Holden wouldn't just tell the lady that he was going home because he was kicked out of pency, and that he wasn't really getting surgery for a brain tumor! i also don't get why if he always talks about being so loney why he turned down seeing both Ernest, and Sally.

1. Holden really likes to "shoot the crap". You hear this slang, and other slang like it a lot during this time period. I've heard it used a lot as british slang, and a variation used in "A Clockwork Orange"- which uses slang spawned from the russian language.
ReplyDeleteANYWAYS.
Shooting the crap means to play around with someone, or act really serious about something that you don't really care about, just for fun. It's basically something you do/say when you're really bored. So by saying that stuff, it was funny to him, because she thought he was someone else. Get it?
2. yeah, he's lonely, but he's lonely because he feels like everyone's phony. I mean he knows people, and has "friends", and he can get some from girls, but you can still feel lonely when you're surrounded by people. As cliche as that sounds. XD
3. It says right in the book that Ernest is a douche bag, why would he go see him, haha.
4. Holden confuses me too. But actually, he's probably just like a lot of people you know, or have met!
Well, I have to keep going up and reading... since Winky left a novel comment :p
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, he is being very self-centered and "rebellious". He always wants people to be paying attention to him and knowing whats going on with him.
I think he should just chill out and get a grip.
